Ruta cola de caballo huesca

Ruta cola de caballo huesca

góriz mountain cabin in spain

Undoubtedly, it is best to do the entire route, however, either for time or for any other reason, you can do a few kilometers and return. Although the experience is not the same, the scenery, the trees, the water … already offer by themselves a moment of peace and calm difficult to forget. Another important fact is that in the Ordesa meadow there is a restaurant, a store and some services that can be used before or after the tour.

If you have funds, you are an athlete or an expert hiker, you can make this circular route along the Senda de los Cazadores. If you choose this path, the views will leave you speechless. The route also begins in the Ordesa meadow but, after a few meters, you will have to choose the option of the Senda de los Cazadores and ascend a steep slope.

The ascent is in the form of a zigzag and, in just 2 kilometers, 650 meters of elevation gain. The effort is worth it because, after the vertiginous ascent, the rest of the trail is done from the heights, with an incredible panoramic view. At the Calcilarruego viewpoint, which is at the highest point of this path, 1950 meters above sea level, the views are breathtaking, not only of the valley but also of some of the most famous peaks in this area.

This important park has a series of trails that are used by both experts and beginners, both to access the high peaks of more than 3,000 meters and for walks with the family. The excursion par excellence in Ordesa is the one we now describe. We will have several options to reach the Cola de Caballo.

The beginning of the itinerary is in the Ordesa meadow. We will choose to go by the Gradas de Soaso, although we can also reach the horsetail by the Senda de los Cazadores -a somewhat more complicated route, which is an alternative to make the round trip by the same path-.

Once we have lived the experience, we can return along the same path, enjoying the scenery for the second time. As we have mentioned, we can vary the return by the second option to reach the Cola de Caballo, which we describe below.

We begin the route in the Ordesa Meadow, until we reach a fork. On the left we find the Classic Route of Ordesa -described above-. We take the path on the right towards the Path of the Hunters.

If you are in the area of the national park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido in the Aragonese Pyrenees, one of the routes that we recommend is the route of the Cola de Caballo, named after the great waterfall at the end of it, although before reaching it, there are many more waterfalls and landscapes to frame. This is a hiking route where you can enjoy the whole journey.

Next, we enter the beech forest. This path is a little more uphill and in some sections a little rocky. Personally it is the one that made me a little heavier. But the effort was rewarded when we reached the Gradas de Soaso. A succession of waterfalls and cascades in an environment of unparalleled beauty.

This area is less steep and ideal to stop for lunch or a snack. We continue along the path to the waterfall of the Cola de Caballo, where you can eat and contemplate the waterfall and its surroundings in all its splendor.
