cueva el soplaocave in spain

The building was divided into two blocks, the first of which was the lighthouse keeper’s dwelling (now demolished) and the other the lighthouse tower. The dwelling had a rectangular floor plan on two levels, and the façade was made of plastered masonry, whitewashed and ashlar masonry. The lighthouse tower is cylindrical in shape, with the lantern at the top inside a glazed prismatic structure with a hemispherical roof. It is topped by a narrow exterior corridor with a metal railing. The height of the focal plane is 24 meters above sea level and 13.36 meters above the ground.

The track, now a paved road, continues to gain height as we leave behind old quarries. The height gained allows us to enjoy magnificent views of the coast that compensate the effort we are making.

A cobbled crossroads joins several paths that run through the mountain, including the one we must follow on our way to the lighthouse. As if it were a slide, a rapid down and up brings us to a new fork.

Stairs in quite good condition and equipped with a towrope as a recurrent guardrail. The initial winding path of the staircase carved into the rock descends quickly, without letting us intuit even the enclave to which we are heading.

A little further down begins the cemented track that we must follow leaving Dueso behind. This track that leads us to pass next to the Polvorín de Dueso undertakes a tough climb, even more so at this stage of the route.

The many paths and variants that we can get to follow make much change the time we need to perform the route we choose, we will also have to add the surely much time we spend on the visit to the Faro del Caballo.

el soplao cave

If you choose a clear day and the water is calm, you will find a paradise where you can take a dip in crystal clear, turquoise waters, which is accessed by descending 100 steps from the lighthouse to the platform. It is also a good diving area.

This July I visited the Faro del Caballo and it is a real shame that, after descending 673 steep steps, the garbage cans are full of garbage, overflowing, because despite the signs warning not to leave garbage there (access is complicated for the cleaning services) many people ignore the message. The result: bad smells from garbage, pee-pee, etc. This panorama detracts from the environment, which is very beautiful, and the effort to go down (and to think that then you have to climb …) the 673 steps. I assure you that you can rest, eat some snacks and return, but everyone with their trash, please!

The garbage at home, it costs less to carry it than to bring it. Do not underestimate the hardness of the steps, they are quite a beating. Only suitable for nature lovers, not suitable for Sunday people looking for cheap fun, the place is beautiful for its beauty, with overcrowding, bye-bye place.
