The cave owes its name to “los soplaos”, a name used by the miners to refer to the karst cavities that they cut during their work and that created strong currents of air. The walk takes about an hour and, in addition to the rock formations that you will see inside the El Soplao Cave, you can enjoy one of the best views of the Picos de Europa.
The mining visit of El Soplao consists of a via ferrata, which unlike the rest of the existing via ferratas, its entire route is developed by mining gallery (Mines of La Florida) This visit has a total length of 2 kilometers and begins by walking the nearly 500 horizontal meters of the gallery Ana (easy transit, although at some points it is necessary to duck your head), which leads to the nerve center of this system of mines. It is at this point where we will leave the Ana gallery to walk 30 meters through the East gallery and begin the Ferrata Minera de El Soplao.
– Once the purchase has been made, you will receive in your e-mail the “Information Document” and “Rules and Considerations of the visit” being necessary to respond to that e-mail giving your agreement to proceed to manage your reservation and send you the voucher for access to the activity.

El Soplao Cave – or Cuevas del Soplao as it is familiarly known – is one of the most important caves in the world due to the quantity and quality of its geological formations; it is also one of the largest, with almost 20 km in length, 4 of which can be visited. In addition to its geological value, the cave and its surroundings are home to an exceptional heritage of industrial mining archeology: derricks, calcination furnaces, washing places, workshops, etc. Undoubtedly a visit worth making if you are in Cantabria, in the area of the Sierra de Arnero.
El Soplao Cave was discovered in the early twentieth century; it was the miners who were digging in the mines of Florida who discovered this exceptional cave, a jewel of geology with impressive formations that look like something out of a science fiction movie.
A recreation of a mining train takes us to the cave. Once there, a circuit is made on foot through the galleries and rooms of La Gorda, Los Fantasmas, Mirador de Lacuerre, Centinelas and Ópera, amidst lighting and sound effects that will leave you open-mouthed. The guided tour lasts approximately 1 hour.
